Doctor reveals three foods that can improve gut health in just seven days

Many people are trying to be more mindful about gut health, and eating certain foods can really help to improve it.

One stomach doctor on TikTok has named the three foods said to fix gut health in just seven days, and his viral video has racked up millions of views and thousands of comments.

Eating a healthy and nutritious diet often means you have a better chance of avoiding problems such as heartburn, indigestion, constipation and IBS. But gut health must be considered too, as you need a healthy intestinal lining to help digest the food you’re eating.

Liverpool Echo reports that Dr Sethi, who is a Gastroenterologist who studied at Harvard University, posted a video to his TikTok explaining what three foods will fix your gut health in seven days.

In the video Dr Sethi said: “Three foods that will change your gut health in seven days. Number one is yoghurt.

“A study published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology found that the consumption of yoghurt containing the probiotic lactobacillus acidophilus and bifido bacterium lactis improved gut health including reduced bloating.”

Dr Sethi then explained the second food to change your gut health is curcumin. This is the active ingredient in tumeric. He explained it: “has been shown to have antioxidants that can improve your gut health.”

Finally, Dr Sethi said that the third food is carom seeds which are also known as ‘ajwain’. According to a scientific study published in the Journal of Phytotherapy Research, carom seeds may help to improve gut health by reducing inflammation and promoting the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.

On the other hand, there’s one thing that you should probably avoid having in your diet if you want to improve your gut health – and that’s artificial sweeteners.

Abir Hamza-Goodacre, registered nutritional therapist at Benenden, says that the artificial sweeteners found in many sugar-free or ‘diet’ foods can actually be harmful to your gut microbiome.

Instead, she recommends opting for naturally sweet foods to curb your cravings, such as bananas, berries, and sweet potatoes.
